Dear Students and Parents

Have you come to one of our football or volleyball games? Our athlete students are beginning this season with a strong focus on doing their best every time they represent us in the field or the court.
So, please continue checking our website to stay abreast of upcoming games and events. We hope to see you around soon!

Our new teachers come from all places. We have teachers coming from England, Pearsall, Oklahoma, Laredo, Dilley, Colorado, and many other places. Have you stopped by and met them yet? If you haven’t, please do not hesitate to do so. They are eager to meet you and let you know the great plans they have for your child. Our returning teachers are also working very hard to help your child improve and excel academically. And don’t forget to mark your calendars to attend our first Open House on Thursday, October 7th.

Our UIL Academic season is in full swing. Posters are going up and students are encouraged to get involved and showcase their talents by participating in one or more of the many events available.

And for now, let us continue to support and encourage our students to do their best every day!

Very Respectfully,

Luz Martinez

Dear Students and Parents

And we began another year at CHS!

Our opening week was great. We started in the Cafeteria where we gathered as a school community. The band and the cheerleaders entertained the crowd and demonstrated that CHS is full of spirit. The cheerleaders introduced every new teacher and staff. The Principal and the Assistant Principal gave a few remarks while encouraging the students to strive for the best and to meet higher expectations in all areas. The Principal recognized the many students who made remarkable improvements and achievements in last year’s TAKS and AP tests. We are so proud of ALL our students’ accomplishments and look forward to many more!

On Wednesday, during our Community Pep Rally, the CHS football field was filled with supporting parents, CISD staff and faculty, and community members who came to cheer all athletes and coaches and to wish them well this school year.

We continued the week by ensuring every student was in line to completing all graduation requirements. Throughout the week and until Friday, several students requested changes to their scheduled classes for various reasons and, wherever possible, changes were made.

Parents, please don’t hesitate to stop by to greet and welcome back all our new and returning teachers and staff. You are also encouraged to visit us anytime and to continue giving us feedback. We look forward to seeing you on campus, at athletic events, Open House (Oct 7th), and visiting your son/daughter’s teachers on a regular basis.

We have a new visitor’s registration system which aims to facilitate and protect our school environment. Our new parking system and traffic flow is well underway. We thank all of you for your support and patience during this process.

Great things are happening in our classrooms and your son/daughter is on his/her way to a great school year. Check the CHS website for activities and news. And don’t forget to check out your son/daughter teachers' website for more information on what’s happening in the classrooms.

Again, we welcome ALL students and look forward to continued improvement, much success, and many great things to come!!!

Very Respectfully,

Luz Martinez

Dear Cotulla Students and Parents

On behalf of the faculty and staff, we welcome you to a new and challenging year at Cotulla High School. As we did last school year, we will continue building and sustaining a safe and positive school climate, a highly productive learning environment, engaging and meaningful learning and teaching, and ensuring that everyone achieves his/her fullest potential. All of these core values will guide every one of our actions at CHS.

Although our school has had some changes in personnel, we have the same mission: “to prepare our students for the rigorous demands of the global economy, both academically and professionally, so that they may reach their potential as self-directed, creative, responsible citizens. This mission will be accomplished through excellence in teaching and learning, made stronger through active partnerships with parents and the community.”

We encourage all of you to visit the CISD’s website.  It has been revamped to serve you better. Once you access the CHS link on the district’s website, you will have the opportunity to see current and ongoing information, such as school events, notices, reminders, teachers’ class links, newsletters, and much, much more!  In the CHS’s webpage, you will be able to see some of our many students’ accomplishments. You will be able to see the class links of our teachers so that you can keep track of what your child is learning and the homework he/she is responsible for. Much more awaits you, so check it out and please provide us with feedback on how it can be improved.

There are many clubs and organizations, such as athletics, mariachi/band, Rachel’s Challenge, AVID, NHS, Student Council, UIL-Academics, and many others in which to participate. It is to everyone’s benefit to get involved in one or more of these areas.  Students, showcase your interests, and talents and watch them grow on the course of your high school experience.

Parents, we remind you that we have many dedicated teachers eager to help your child in this growth process, so we encourage you to know them. Let them know how they can best serve your child’s needs. We have a few new teachers this year, so stop by and visit them and help us give them a warm Cotulla welcome.!

We also ask ALL parents to get involved in your child’s education by fully and actively participating in our school activities and organizations. Great ways to stay abreast of our school’s happenings is by attending the PTO meetings, visiting your child’s teachers, and providing us with feedback and suggestions. Some of you may recall that during our back to school orientation meetings, we asked all parents to make the effort to bring at least one other parent when attending a school function. One of our challenges this school year is to turn our parental involvement around by significantly increasing participation in all areas. We ask that you help us achieve that goal.  We believe that the future of our children rests in the strength of our community and the dedication of our parents and faculty.

Lastly, from this point forward, at the end of every letter, you will find an inspirational quote. My hope is that it will speak something special to someone.

Please let us know how we can serve you better. This will be a great year! Let'sbegin!

"Instead of giving myself reasons why I can't,
I give myself reasons why I can."
